Jazz at Lincoln Center is the world’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to jazz, housed in Frederick P. Rose Hall at the Deutsche Bank Center on Columbus Circle. Since its founding in 1987, the organization has become a global ambassador for jazz, presenting performances, educational programs, and broadcasts that reach audiences worldwide.
Under the artistic direction of Wynton Marsalis since its inception, Jazz at Lincoln Center operates three distinct performance venues. Rose Theater is a 1,200-seat concert hall with flexible staging that hosts the organization’s major productions and visiting artists. The Appel Room offers 500 seats before a stunning 50-foot glass wall overlooking Central Park and the Manhattan skyline—one of the most dramatic backdrops in live music. Dizzy’s Club provides an intimate 140-seat setting for nightly performances, carrying on the jazz club tradition with sets seven nights a week.
The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis serves as the institution’s resident ensemble. Comprising 15 of the finest soloists and ensemble players in jazz, the Orchestra performs an expansive repertoire ranging from original compositions to rare historic works, recruiting new audiences for jazz through its tours, recordings, and educational initiatives.
Beyond performance, Jazz at Lincoln Center maintains an extensive commitment to education. Programs like Essentially Ellington bring jazz into high schools nationwide, while the organization’s free concerts, workshops, and digital content make the music accessible to diverse audiences. The venue also streams performances globally, extending its reach far beyond Columbus Circle.
Jazz at Lincoln Center represents both a world-class concert destination and a vital institution working to ensure jazz remains a living, evolving art form for future generations.
