“Hanahan plays with an intense and driving conviction.” – WBGO
Alto saxophone phenom Sarah Hanahan is a special guest with the Vincent Herring Quintet with legendary pianist George Cables. Hanahan is a fiery soloist and one of the most exciting young players to arrive in New York City in years. WBGO says, “While she's comfortable building phrases within the language of Charlie Parker, Hanahan is also confident exploring along the outer edges of the music.” Originally from Massachusetts, she was based in Hartford while she attended the Jackie McLean Institute. The Hartford Courant raves, “It’s not hard to hear the connection to the legacy of McLean in her work.”
Hanahan is featured in this quintet alongside the beloved pianist George Cables. All About Jazz writes, “Anyone who is serious about jazz will tell you that George Cables belongs in the pantheon of the greatest jazz pianists.” Finally, Hanahan will be matching wits with one of the very best, the renowned fellow alto player Vincent Herring, who The New York City Jazz Record says, “has firmly established himself as one of his generation’s masters.”
